What is Tele-Dermatology?

Tele-Dermatology is a subspecialty of dermatology and probably among the most popular applications of e-health and telemedicine. In this field, telecommunication technology is being used to transfer medical information over varying distances through audio, visual and data communication.

Dermoscopyis the technical field of using an epiluminescencemicroscope for viewing skin lesions in magnification in-vivo. It is particularly useful in the early detection of malignant skin lesions (i.e., melanoma). Digital dermoscopic images can be taken with adigital camera attached to a dermatoscope or special video cameras suited for dermoscopy, Since Dermoscopy is based on examination of a two-dimensional image it is very well suited for digital imaging and Tele-Dermatology.
